Promises2Kids 40th Anniversary: It Started with A Dream of Three People

Posted by Robert K. Butterfield | Feb 16, 2021

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Promises2Kids, originally founded in 1981 as the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation. It all started with a simple wish - ensuring children are safe, happy and loved. Three remarkable local San Diegans took that dream and transformed it into an organization that has supported over 200,000 abused and neglected children in our community. Norma Hirsh, Renee Comeau, and Robert K. Butterfield started this 40 years ago and proved that anyone can make a difference. In 2009, The Child Abuse Prevention Foundation became Promises2Kids.

1981

Child Abuse Prevention Foundation (CAPF) is founded by Norma Hirsh, Renée Comeau, Rob Butterfield, Carla Snyder and Mary Avery. First activities were to raise community awareness of the issues of child abuse and establish an emergency Baby Food Fund to provide food, medicine and supplies to children.
