Butterfield Schechter LLP is pleased to announce that Madison R. Beck, Esq. has joined the firm as its newest attorney. Ms. Beck earned her juris doctor degree from the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law in 2021.
Before joining Butterfield Schechter, LLP, Ms. Beck interned for the USD Legal Clinics Immigration and Women's Legal Clinics and served as an Associate Editor and a Comment Editor for the San Diego International Law Journal from 2020-2021. Also, in 2020, Ms. Beck had the opportunities to intern as a Summer Research Fellow at USD School of Law, where she researched and wrote about the legal implications of COVID-19 on U.S. asylum-seekers, as well as intern for Congresswoman Susan Davis in her last term as the U.S. Representative for the 53rd Congressional District. Throughout her last year in law school, Ms. Beck also interned for USD's Center for Public Interest Law where she monitored the California State Agency, the Bureau for Private Post-Secondary Education and gained hands-on experience in Administrative Law.
Ms. Beck is passionate about LGBTQ+ rights, women's rights, and civil rights. She has earned recognition from San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas for her organization of the South Bay Rainbow Ride, a community caravan in Chula Vista that originated during the COVID-19 Pandemic to celebrate PRIDE together safely. Ms. Beck is currently a committee member of the National Conference of Women's Bar Associations GOOD Guys Committee (GOOD = Guys Overcoming Obstacles to Diversity), which is dedicated to breaking the impasse in women's advancement in the legal profession by engaging male leaders in the cause. She also served on the Board of the Women's Law Caucus for the 2019-2020 school year as the Attorney Liaison and currently serves on the Board of Rainbow Spaces, a nonprofit with a mission to create inclusive spaces for queer children and families in the South Bay.
Ms. Beck is admitted to practice law in the State of California and practices in the areas of ERISA and employee benefits law.
